What are Asset Models in Service Desk?

Asset Models refers to a collection of different products. Creating multiple asset models helps organising and differentiating various configurations of a product. Creating new asset models will help in identifying specific variants of a model and simplifies the asset tracking for IT teams.

 

How to create a Asset Model?

  1. Navigate to Service Desk Main Menu > Product Catalog > Asset Models.

  2. Click on the +button next to the title Asset Models. 

  3. Create Asset Model right panel will be displayed in the right will the following fields. Provide the required details to create a new asset model

FIELDS DESCRIPTION

Name *

Provide the asset model name or the product name. This is a mandatory field.

Example: Macbook Pro, Dell Optiplex, Alienware Gaming Mouse etc.

Manufacturer *

Provide the manufacturer name of the model. This is a mandatory field.

Model Number

Provide a unique model number for identification of the model. 

Short Description

Provide a short description of the model.

This will help users quickly identify and differentiate this specific model in the Product Catalog.

Description

Provide a detailed description of the model. This can include the specifications, features, and unique characteristics.

Asset Type *

Select the asset type to which the model should be associated. Choose a Asset type from the dropdown available. This is a mandatory field.

Status

This field allows users to specify the current state of the model or the product. The status of the model can be any one of the following,

 

Planned

Asset model in early development, not yet available for use. Organization preparing to introduce a new version or configuration.

 

In Review

Asset model undergoing evaluation by stakeholders. 

 

Managed

Active and available asset model in the catalog. Fully implemented and actively maintained with updates and support.

 

Retired

Asset model no longer in use or support. Existing instances may still exist, but new additions are not allowed. 

Comments

Any additional comments for reference.

 

  1. Click on Save.
  2. The Asset model will be created and you will be directed to the Asset Model details page.

Asset Model Details Page

Asset Model Details - Card

The primary details of the asset model will be displayed in this card at the top

  • Asset Model Name
  • Short Description
  • Status of the Asset Model with colour code. 

Linked Assets

All the assets associated to the Asset Model will be listed. Following details will be displayed in the table,

  1. Asset Name
  2. Display ID
  3. Asset Status with respective colour code

Linking Assets to the Asset Model

  • You can also link a new asset by clicking on the +button next to the Linked Assets title.
  • This will open up a Link Assets right panel
  • Currently you can search for an asset already created and link it here.
  • You can also click on asset that is already linked to the model and update its respective status here.

Assets Overview [Asset Inventory Info]

  • Based on the list of assets associated to the Asset Model, the overview section on the right will display the number of assets under each status and the consolidated count at the end.
  • This will help the IT teams or Asset Managers to get a quick insight on what assets are in stock, in use, etc, and when a stock is not in stock they can decide to initiate the procurement process of the respective model. 

Asset Model information 

  • The following details of the asset model will be displayed in the Asset Model Info section.
    1. Asset Type
    2. Description
    3. Manufacturer
    4. Model Number
    5. Cost
    6. Comments
  • You can either click on Edit all in this section or click on the Edit button on top of the card to update the details of the asset model

Delete Asset Model

  • You can click on the Delete action button on top of the card to delete an asset model.
  • This will display a confirmation message with the number of assets linked to the model in a popover.
  • This action will automatically unlink the assets linked to Model
  • Clicking on Delete will delete the model permanently. This action cannot be reverted.
