What is SPF?
SPF - Sender Policy Framework, is an email authentication method designed to prevent email spoofing and unauthorised use of a domain in email messages. SPF works by allowing domain owners to specify which mail servers are authorised to send emails on behalf of their domain.
Here's how SPF works
- DNS Records: The domain owner publishes SPF records in the Domain Name System (DNS). These records contain information about the authorised mail servers for that domain.
- Email Server Verification: When an email is sent, the recipient's email server checks the SPF records of the sender's domain. It verifies if the sending mail server is included in the list of authorised servers.
- Authentication Result: Based on the SPF check, the recipient's email server can determine whether the email is legitimate or if it might be a fraudulent attempt, such as email spoofing.
How to setup and verify SPF for an email channel in Service Desk?
To ensure all your replies are delivered to your customers always, we strongly recommend setting up the SPF record in your domain name server.
- Navigate to Main Menu > Manage > Email Channels list page.
- Click on the custom email channel to open the edit form.
- Copy the SPF record to be added to your DNS record from the SPF Verification Pending section shown below.
- Once you have added the above record to your DNS records, you can come back to to the same page and click on Verify now to verify the DNS settings.
- Once your SPF record is verified through backend, successfully verified icon will be displayed in the UI.
